Costa Rica White Water Rafting Pacuare Pristine Rainforest Savegre River Adventure
Rafting in Costa Rica
Between the year-round warm water and the natural beauty, Costa Rica offers some of the world's best white water rafting and kayaking rivers.
Rafters can choose from half-day, full-day, and multi day trips, with plenty of options for all skill levels. Expert tour guides will provide safety instructions as well as show you the amazing wildlife and scenery along the way.
From an ecotourism point of view, white water rafting offers a low-impact experience on the environment, access to the most remote and pristine rainforests and a chance to see birds, animals and flora from a very unique point of view. These are some of the most popular rivers to raft:
Penas Blancas River
The Penas Blancas River is the perfect choice for groups with children or for those who prefer to float more peacefully down a river. This river has both class I and II rapids. A safari float down this river provides an excellent opportunity to really take in the beautiful forest surroundings and spot some unique wildlife.
Rio Balsa Class II-III
The Rio Balsa is located around 45 minutes from La Fortuna. It is a good option for beginners. While paddling down the river, you will be surrounded by lush and wildlife-rich forest. This is an incredible way to experience the forest while doing something exhilarating at the same.
Savegre River: Class II-III
The Savegre River, found near Manuel Antonio, is one of the cleanest in all of Central America. It features a mix of both calm and exciting stretches, and guests will have plenty of time to get out of their rafts to swim in between the maneuvering of rapids.
Pacuare River: Class III-IV
One of the top-rated rivers in the world for rafting, the Pacuare River offers beautiful views and crazy rapids to traverse. The river runs alongside the Talamanca Mountain Range, home to a vast array of exotic wildlife including monkeys, toucans, parrots, jaguars, deer, butterflies, and ocelots! Due to the intensity of the rapids, there is an age requirement for this trip.
Naranjo River: Class III-IV
Naranjo River near Manuel Antonio features an exhilarating stretch on the river’s rapids before opening up onto the Pacific flatlands where everyone can experience a more relaxing journey while scoping for the abundant birdlife of the region. There is an age requirement.
