Nosara’s uniquely beautiful beaches and surroundings like Guiones, Pelada and Garza are all part of the Ostional National Wildlife Refuge. The refuge was established to protect the turtles that come each month to Ostional beach for nesting their eggs. Nosara town is not on the coast, and it’s where most locals live. You can visit the town to experience the true Costa Rican culture and food. There are other small villages all around.

Surfing
Nosara is very popular with local and international travelers who are looking to surf and enjoy a laid-back surf atmosphere. Although surfing conditions are relatively consistent all throughout the year, the best time to surf in Nosara, Costa Rica, is from March to November.

Ostional National Wildlife Refuge
The Ostional National Wildlife Refuge extends all the way to Ostional, Nosara, Pelada and Guiones. All this area, close to the beach, is protected, keeping the rich wildlife and ensuring a safe place for the turtles to hatch. The Olive Ridley Turtles make their way to the coast to lay their eggs on the beach. This takes place during the entire year, but the big “arribadas'' meaning thousands of turtles coming in, happen between August and December. One of the most beautiful things you will ever see is the tiny turtles taking their first steps to the ocean!

Playa Samara is about an hour south of Playa Guiones. It is a cute little beach town that is a nice change of scenery if you’ve been in Nosara for a while. There are several restaurants and boutique shops as well as a tranquil beach to swim.
